If you live in an area that is known to be affected by termites, you should have a termite control plan in place sooner rather than later. If you haven’t had a run in previously with these relentless invaders, it is very easy to be complacent about the whole thing but can you really afford to put write the thousands of dollars’ worth of damage they are perfectly capable of inflicting?
As a responsible homeowner, you can’t afford to just sit back and wait for them to strike. You need to talk to a termite control specialist and work out a strategy that will, in the long run, save you much heartache and financial outlay. Do you research and engage the services of a professional termite controller with both the qualifications and experience to undertake inspections at regular intervals. These are usually once or twice a year depending on the area.
If the inspection reveals that you are, at present, termite free, your termite controller will advise you on what measures to take to ensure that you stay that way. They will discuss such things as the most effective control methods for your home, taking into consideration such things as location, type of soil, and the termite species that are most rampant in your neighbourhood.
Regular inspections should be perfectly adequate in low risk areas, but if you are in a high risk zone with a history of infestation, a longer term solution may be sought. This can include such things as putting up a chemical barrier for protection, or extensive maintenance work done on exterior woodwork that could be vulnerable to an attack from the termites.
If your inspection reveals the evidence of an active termite infestation, your controller will discuss with you the various methods used to eradicate them and the chemicals that will be used. Home insurance doesn’t cover termite damage so the sooner you get rid of the critters the better for all concerned.
